Jed

Jed

Overview

Jed is an AI wellness companion built for UK therapy practice Inside Talk: a multi-platform product spanning a live web app, a native Apple app, and a therapist-training simulator powered by real-time avatars.

The Challenge

Inside Talk wanted to take mental wellbeing support beyond the appointment book. The ambition was an always-available AI companion that people could talk to between sessions, that remembered their history, and that handled deeply personal data with genuine care, alongside a separate tool to help trainee therapists build real skills through realistic practice. Delivering that meant a product living across the web, iPhone, iPad and macOS, holding a consistent identity, satisfying Apple's strict App Store review, and earning trust on privacy from the first screen.

What We Built

The web app, live at jed.chat, gives people text and voice conversations with an AI that remembers everything and never judges. Around those conversations sit mood tracking with trend analysis, goal-setting with regular check-ins, journaling and personalised insights, all backed by persistent cross-session memory so each chat picks up where the last one left off. The product leads with its promise on the homepage: personal growth, reimagined for you, free forever, no appointments, no judgment.

On Apple platforms we built a native Swift app for iPhone, iPad and macOS that deepens the experience: mood tracking, goal radar charts, a polished voice mode, file attachments, on-the-fly personality switching, auto-named chats and animated gradient orbs while Jed responds, all unified under an animated lotus identity chosen to signal wellness and calm. Apple Health integration, off by default and opt-in by design, lets people bring sleep, steps, heart rate and calorie data into the conversation so Jed can give genuinely personalised recommendations. Privacy is front and centre: bank-level encryption, zero data selling, and one-tap deletion of everything. We carried the app through Apple's full review process, iterating through two rejections to add Sign in with Apple and resolve other feedback, and reached Ready for Distribution on 15 April 2026.

Alongside the companion, we moved a therapist-training simulator into active build on HeyGen real-time avatars. Trainee therapists practise live sessions against AI clients across tiered, increasingly complex scenarios; the AI stays strictly in the client role throughout, and a separate AI agent delivers structured feedback once the session ends. Under the hood the production stack runs on Next.js and Vercel with Sentry error and cron monitoring and an SMS queue, supporting a weekly delivery cadence with the client.

Results

The web product is live and in active iteration at jed.chat, offering conversational AI, mood and goal tracking, journaling and personalised insights with persistent memory. The native iOS, iPad and macOS app was approved and reached Ready for Distribution on the App Store on 15 April 2026, after we resolved Apple's review feedback across two rounds. The therapy-training simulator has moved into active development on HeyGen real-time avatars, and we work to a weekly delivery cadence with Inside Talk. No quantitative performance metrics are published for this product, so none are claimed here.
